Classic Car Loan Project becomes Borrow A Classic

23 January 2025

After 7 successful years of encouraging the next generation of classic enthusiasts, Borrow A Classic (BAC) emerges from the Classic Car Loan Project (CCLP).

The new name was launched at the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs’ Expo event at the British Motor Museum on January 18th, with clubs in attendence being invited to become involved.

Over the past 7 years the initiative has given over 100 selected drivers a whole year with a classic car with support included. Borrow A Classic will continue the same mission – to offer classic cars (there are currently 25 cars in the project) on loan to younger classic vehicle enthusiasts.

Borrow A Classic has a small team of volunteers, each a classic car ‘nut’ and able to support classic car clubs in their efforts to recruit younger followers using the experience gained in the Classic Car Loan Project. At Peter James Insurance we are delighted to have sponsored and supported the project and the individuals involved from the start.

Borrow A Classic founder Bob Wilkinson said:

“Around 25 of the 100+ participants have gone on to buy their own classic as a result of their experience. With great support from owners, clubs, and Peter James Insurance the Classic Car Loan Project concept had proved itself, and thus it seemed logical to ditch the word “project”. The new name was suggested by the current young drivers.

From recently being a one-man band we now have an enthusiastic team to deliver greater numbers and to be able to support clubs looking to kickstart their own initiatives. Encouraging the next generation is a high priority for all clubs…. and we can help. The initiative was launched in 2016, at the British Motor Museum, and so it was appropriate to relaunch here and to acknowledge the support from the Federation, clubs and the generous spirited owners and Peter James Insurance.”
