Could you be the next loan car recipient?

Organisers of a blossoming project to encourage the next generation of classic motorists into the movement are looking for the next round of loan car ‘borrowers’.

Launched last March and supported by Peter James Insurance, the pilot Classic Car Loan Project involved a beautiful 1929 Ford Model A Phaeton which was loaned out to lucky recipient Richard Gordon-Colebrooke for 12 months.

So successful was the initial project, that it has not only been extended for another year, but will this time see at least three classic vehicles on offer, with possibly more in the pipeline.

Up for loan this year is a 1960 Vauxhall Victor Saloon, offered by the Vauxhall Victor Owners Club, a 1983 Austin Maestro, offered by owner enthusiast Tanya Field of the Maestro and Montego Club and last but by no means least, the Ford Model A Phaeton at the heart of the original project, once again offered by its owner Peter Garrett, who kick-started the pilot initiative. Having been behind the project from the very start, Peter James Insurance is extending its support for its latest phase, offering £100 of insurance to the borrower of each vehicle, as well as insurance advice and support.
If you would like to apply to be the next lucky borrower of one of these three classics, or would like to find out more, contact stating which car you would be interested in.
Applicants must have access to garage facilities and preferably be over 25 years of age. The individual vehicle owners or the relevant club will then select the borrower, who will have the vehicle for either six months or one year by negotiation. Applications must be received by March 7th.
The new loan cars will be presented to their new, temporary owners during a handover ceremony on April 7th at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, where they will be able to gain some practise behind the wheel before they take to the roads for the coming months.
Loan Car Project organiser Bob Wilkinson said: “I’m delighted that the pilot scheme has been so successful that we can now widen the project to offer more opportunities for prospective classic motorists to see what life is like within this wonderful movement. Having the fantastic support from Peter James Insurance gives the additional confidence to all involved in the project.” Email Bob for more info:
Peter James said: “We are firm believers that encouraging new blood into the classic vehicle community is essential if we are to ensure that the movement continues to thrive, and that is why we are proud to be at the heart of this growing project.”
