Classic Car Loan Project prepares for 2020 handover

Now in its fourth year, the blossoming Classic Car Loan Project will to see no less than 20 younger enthusiasts borrowing a classic car for a year.

The 2020 loan cars will officially be handed over to their borrowers at a ceremony at The British Motor Museum on April 11th.

Peter James Insurance has supported the project from the start, when a beautiful 1929 Ford Model A Phaeton was loaned out by its generous owner Peter Garrett.

He, along with the project manager Bob Wilkinson, wanted to help encourage new enthusiasts into the classic car community.

Since then, under Bob’s management, the initiative has gone from strength to strength and this year will see 20 cars of all ages, shapes and sizes, loaned out to new classics enthusiasts by individuals, car clubs and organisations from across the country.

The cars include the project’s original loan car – the 1929 Ford Model A as well as an Austin 7, two Morgan 3 Wheeler Sports, two Alvis saloons, a 1960 Vauxhall Victor and the ever-popular Morris Minor Traveller.

Some new additions this year are a second Ford Model A, a 1934 Austin 10 Clifton Tourer, a 1936 Ford Model Y, a 1950 MG TD, a Wolseley 1500, a Vauxhall Viva and a Triumph Acclaim.

Bob explained: “We have doubled the number of cars available this year due to the success of previous years. The level of response and support from owners and clubs, who recognise the need to encourage the next generation, has been magnificent.

“No doubt all are given increased confidence by the knowledge that each driver and owner is safeguarded by a dedicated insurance scheme from Peter James Insurance, who have sponsored us from day one to create this wonderful opportunity for younger enthusiasts.”

He added: “It is still possible to apply for a car as some of the later additions are still available. Contact me via the website www.classiccarloanproject.co.uk

You could be sharing the excitement of having a classic for the year!”
